Brief therapy is a form of counseling designed to produce emotional or behavioral therapeutic change in a minimal amount of time. Brief therapy is typically at least three to six sessions, and not typically more than 20. Brief therapy is usually active and directive; it is more likely indicated when there are clearly defined symptoms or problems, and where the goals are limited and specific. Examples include the need to work through a life stressor such as divorce, job change, medical issue, bereavement/loss, or educational problems.
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) is a process that prevents or limits the development of post-traumatic stress in people exposed to critical incidents. With the assistance of clinical professionals, individual and group debriefings help people cope with, and recover from an incident's aftereffects. CISD enables participants to understand that they are not alone in their reactions to a distressing event, and provides them with an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a controlled, safe environment.
Clinical Hypnosis is a procedure in which a qualified therapist gives a patient carefully worded instruction to follow with a goal of helping the patient enter into a state of deep relaxation. In this hypnotic state, the "hypnotized" patient is aware of everything that is going on. The practitioner uses carefully worded language to help the patient enter into a state of highly focused attentiveness in which the patient is able to clear away "mental clutter" and focus on his or her problem and solutions to the problem.
Testing and Assessment are tools used to effectively diagnose and create treatment plans for individuals interested in therapy. They are also used in court cases, schools for the development of IEP's, employment and hiring. Tests are used to detect personality disorders, significant psychological disorders, measures of intelligence and cognitive functioning
